Are Traffic Exchanges Effective?

This is a loaded question, and after the better part of a decade, I have to say Yes!  Active traffic exchanges are very effective because they are the easiest way to advertise your site on a budget and check out some of the best opportunities on the web.  Some traffic exchanges are more targeted than others of course, but the key is activity!  Manual traffic exchanges offer the best quality because each member has to either view your site in order for theirs to rotate and get views, or they can purchase credits.  Once you find a traffic exchange that converts really well for you, gets interested people signing up or clicking through your site, it’s a good idea to upgrade.

Free vs. Upgraded:

Upgrading unlocks benefits not available to free members, including higher affiliate commissions for referrals, increased surf ratios, and a host of other benefits depending on the traffic exchange.  Whether you promote some type of affiliate program for cash or any other kind of site, traffic exchanges have evolved to cater to the affiliate member and opportunity seeker more and more over the years.  Successful traffic exchanges will often give their members higher commissions for both referral purchases and upgrades.  A lot of people are earning a very nice residual income just promote traffic exchanges on other traffic exchanges and consistently surfing or purchasing credits on the top performers to keep their affiliate links in constant rotation.  Again, once you’ve found the traffic exchanges giving you the best ROI (Return on Investment) whether it be time and/or money, you should consider upgrading to compound your investment.

Auto vs. Manual

Auto-surf exchanges are still very controversial and honestly for good reason.  The way these auto-surfs work is, you start your surfing session and the timer counts down, then automatically opens the next site when the timer reaches zero.  If you’re going to invest time or money to advertise your site, don’t you want to increase the chances of someone seeing your ad?  With auto-surf exchanges you’ll find that a lot of people will start their session and walk away from the computer for several minutes, even hours at a time.  Where’s the value in that?  Call me biased, but I demand quality for my sites.

Manual-surf exchanges are not 100% guaranteed to have an active viewer at your site either, however, the odds are much much better considering the user has to initiate the next page in rotation by clicking an image (or whatever the site requires).  Timers will always vary from exchange to exchange, but generally you’ll spend anywhere from 6 to 30 seconds on a site.  You will formulate your own opinion over time about the best type of exchange for your business, I recommend trying different types but keep in mind, activity matters!
